The Government wants to clamp down on supermarkets selling cheap booze claiming that it is this that is causing the violent drink related crime in this country rather than pubs selling alcohol. People buy cheap supermarket booze, drink it before they go out and then after a only a few expensive drinks they are so drunk they don't realise what they are doing.
Personally i agree that the practice should be stopped and think that supermarkets should charge more than the full price that they are charging now to give pubs a chance to compete. More and more people are drinking at home, then going to the pub and not drinking at all, they spend the whole evening on the dance floor.
I definitely think that the cheap, half price offers etc are causing a lot of the problem, they not only allow people to tank up before they go out but they take away the respect that people had for booze when I were younger. It was only sold in pubs and off licences by a licensee and that made it an adult drink that should be respected. Now it's treated like pop, 16 yr old can sell in supermarkets.
