All eyes on Rammy for pudding contest
IF THE proof is in last year’s pudding, the 2006 World Black Pudding Championships in Ramsbottom on 10 September should be another memorable event.
Last year, more than £800 was raised at the contest.
It was featured in national newspaper the Daily Sport – complete with pictures of some of its glamour models, who made an appearance – adding to the global coverage the quirky event has garnered.

The event sees competitors standing on the ‘Golden Grid’, throwing black puddings at a pyramid of large Yorkshire puddings balanced on a 20ft high platform.
The contestant who dislodges the most puddings is the winner.
The wacky contest celebrates the traditional rivalry between Lancashire and Yorkshire.
Stuart Law, landlord of the Royal Oak pub on Bridge Street, Ramsbottom, offered to host the championships after its original home, The Corner Pin pub in Stubbins, closed down.
He now helps organise it with the Stubbins Community Trust.
He said: ‘We’re in our fourth year here now and it just goes from strength to strength.
‘We’ve been on BBC1, ABC in America, in Lancashire Life magazine and I’ve spoken live on Australian radio about it.
‘This year we’ve had interest from an ITV talk show, and we’re in the August/September bmi baby flight magazine.
‘It attracts people from all over every year, with regular visitors from Belgium, Scandinavia and Russia.
‘It’s a great community event for Ramsbottom and we want to make it even better, with more involvement from the town.’
The opening ceremony will be at 11.30am, with pipers from the North Manchester Celtic Pipe Band.
After the contest, there will be live music from local bands Das Ringmeisters, Big Lix, Kojo, Mollie Bloom and Johnny Shot.
Throughout the day there will be face painting, children’s rides, a bouncy castle and of course, black pudding stalls on Bridge Street, which police will close for the duration.
